Ground meat is a type of minced meat and is a staple ingredient in many different dishes. It likely originated in Persia or Arabia and can be made from various types of meat, such as beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and turkey. In Greece, ground beef is the most popular and most commonly used type of ground meat.

Types of ground meat

Ground beef: a classic choice in Greek households because of its mild smell. Its nutritional value is no different from that of fresh beef. It is rich in high-quality protein, vitamins, and minerals. Of all types of ground meat, ground beef is the most expensive.

Ground pork: it is not used as much as ground beef and is usually mixed with it. It is a more affordable type of ground meat.

Ground chicken & turkey: these types of ground meat are used mainly in healthier diets because of their low fat content. Because of their very mild flavor, they are usually paired with plenty of herbs and spices to enhance their taste.

Ground lamb: ground lamb is not used much in Greek cuisine, as it has a noticeably stronger smell than the types mentioned above. It is best suited to Middle Eastern recipes.
