Want to try a Malbec from the world's most popular wine brand in 2020, according to Drinks International? You do!
Catena Zapata winery was founded in 1902 by Nicola Catena and stood out for the way it showcased the exceptional terroirs at very high altitudes, in the foothills of the Andes in Mendoza. Thanks to him, Argentine wines and the Malbec varietal entered the global wine map in a truly pioneering way! Today, the winery is run by the family's fourth generation, and with its "High Altitude Vineyards" philosophy, it has become a major name in Argentine viticulture and one of the region's largest vineyard owners.
Catena Malbec is a blend not of grapes, but of vineyards! It comes from the Lunlunta, El Cepillo, and Gualtallary vineyards, at altitudes of up to 1,500 meters, and the composition of the soil and excellent cultivation practices have earned them Grand Cru status! The low temperatures help the Malbec grapes ripen perfectly, while the staggered harvest and the grapes' five-day cold soak give the wine intoxicating aromas! Fermentation with wild yeasts for 12 days and maceration for 19-20 days enhance its structure. The wine spends 12 months in barrels (first, second, and third use), selected for this particular vineyard and harvest, giving it complexity and a juicy, fruity character!
All of this is done with the blessing of Laura Catena and head winemaker Alejandro Vigil, and you, like us, will be grateful to them!
Don't wait any longer: pour a glass and enjoy it with grilled lamb chops or steaks! You're responsible for keeping some for the next 10 years. We've heard it will be excellent even after twenty. Do you think the winery sweeps up awards by chance? Not at all, and when you taste it, you'll understand…
