It is not so much the aromatic intensity that will captivate you, but the “purity” of fruit that you will “detect.” Citrus notes reminiscent of bitter orange, mandarin, and essential oils from orange peels, alongside some riper notes of banana and ripe pear, with hints of white-fleshed fruit. A nose that enchants less with its complexity than with the immediacy of its character. On the palate, the acidity is refreshing enough, despite the variety’s generally low acidity, while the wine has a slightly bitter finish that, we might say, “will whet your appetite” for another glass.

The Monemvasia variety, of great historical significance, “returns” to its presumed region of origin, Laconia, thanks to the efforts of George Theodorakakos. Through careful winemaking and organic grape cultivation, Perivleptos expresses exceptionally well all the virtues of this rare Greek variety and the terroir of the Laconian land from which it comes.
