Περιγραφή
The wine’s name refers to the wonderful film *Sideways*. However, the similarities end with the title, since those of you who have seen the film will remember the protagonist’s aversion to Merlot. On the other hand, with 85% Merlot in its blend, this outstanding red wine from Biblia Chora demonstrates the estate’s ‘faith’ in the world’s most widely planted grape, a variety that also manages, in the case of ‘Sideways’, to produce a wine of international caliber.
Deep purple, almost opaque in color, the kind that suggests, at least visually, high quality to come. The ‘sweetness’ of the aromas on the nose revolves around ripe red fruit and plums, milk chocolate, and sweet spices such as vanilla and licorice. ‘It’s all about sweetness of aromas,’ as the English might say of this style of wine. On the palate, the wine is dry, with no sharpness, ‘edges’ or excesses. Both Merlot and Agiorgitiko, after all, are distinguished by their gentle character, with tannins that, while relatively abundant due to the wine’s youth, are ‘velvety’ and soft. The finish is fruity, developing into notes of chocolate and oak. The wine is ready to drink now, but can continue to develop for another 5 to 10 years.
Grape varieties: Merlot 85%, Agiorgitiko 15%
Characteristics: A wine with an intense red color, aged for 16 months in new oak barrels. Intense aromas of red fruit, chocolate, cedar and nuts. The careful selection of grapes from the estate’s low-yielding vineyard, along with 16 months of oak-barrel aging, produce a full-bodied, robust, well-structured wine with a pleasant richness, plenty of tannins and excellent aging potential.
Serving temperature: 18 ℃.
