What you will need

Ingredients for 4 people

  • 1.5 kg pork belly slices
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • Salt
  • Pepper

 

How to prepare the marinade

In a bowl, mix:

  • the honey,
  • the mustard,
  • the olive oil,
  • the lemon,
  • and the spices.

The texture should be thick enough to "stick" well to the pork belly slices.

Once prepared, spread the marinade over all the meat and ideally leave it in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours.

If you don't have time, you can bake them immediately. However, the flavor will be even more intense if they have time to marinate.

 

The right baking for juicy pork belly slices

The biggest mistake many people make is baking pork belly slices too quickly or at too high a temperature. The secret is gradual baking.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Place the pork belly slices in a baking dish lined with parchment paper or on a rack.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil for the first stage.
  • Bake for about 1 hour.
  • Remove the aluminum foil and continue for another 20-30 minutes until they are browned and caramelized.

At the end, you can turn on the grill for 3-5 minutes to make them even crispier. Be careful not to burn them due to the honey.

 


How will you know they are ready?

Properly baked pork belly slices:

  • have a golden color,
  • a crispy edge,
  • and the meat cuts easily without drying out.

If you see that they are holding a lot of liquid, leave them a little longer without aluminum foil.

  • roasted potatoes,
  • baby potatoes with herbs,
  • Greek salad,
  • coleslaw,
  • roasted vegetables,
  • or even refreshing lemon rice.
